No Snag Sinkers

nuts

Question

Went up to northern WI fishing last week for walleyes in some pretty rocky lakes (including Superior) so I thought the no snag sinkers would be a hot ticket. I got rigged up and after breaking 4 leaders right below the loop, I began to wonder.

I noticed that the sinkers have a swimming action like a crankbait when they're pulled fast or jigged. It looked like that, combined with the wire on the end of them caused enough friction on the leader to wear them down so when you got a bite the leader would break when you set the hook as they were all breaking in the same spot exactly where the wire would hit the leader.

Has anyone else had problems like this with the no snag sinkers? I should mention I was using 8# Vanish for my leaders and once I replaced the no snag with an old fashioned slip sinker, I had no problems.

Ive had problems with florocarbon being brittle so I went to Trilene XT. Also with the no snags run a bead between it and your knot. This helps the banging onto the knot. I also will use a swivel after the bead then my leader line.
You also may have been too slow and dragging bottom and that frayed your line. 1 thing I notice is the no snags are harder to feel bottom with compared to bottom bouncers or lindy sinkers. You may want to try some slinkys. They are also snag resistant.

Thanks guys. I've thought about putting a dab of epoxy on the end of the wire to round it out a bit. Thought this would cut down on the wear to the leader, but I don't know.

I have noticed the fluorocarbon being a little brittle. Maybe I'll bump up my leaders to 10# or 12#.
