katchaser
LeeAlthough getting addicted to catfishing can be hazardous to your marriage and wallet, I will still add some ideas to your rigging options. If you fish over sand or gravel bottoms you can use smaller sinkers by using pyramid style sinkers. If you want to drift fish for cats you would want pencil style drift sinkers. If you fish lakes for cats you may prefer egg sinkers rigged slip style.I could go on and on but my point is that rigging options can and should be customized to best present baits where you fish and they can change as conditions or locations change. My entire attitude is to adjust to suit conditions I find, in order to catch more and bigger fish. The more you learn and experiment the more options you have as conditions change. It all equates to using the right tool for the job.
rushing
Kinda hard to say, everyone has different preferences as to what they like to use but myself I pretty much only use Circle hooks and I pretty much only fish live bait, so my main hook of choice is Gamakatsu 8/0 Octopus Circle Hooks. As far as your weight selections you have it pretty much covered. Once you fish with more people and see how they do things you will start to pick out what works best for you. Katchaser has some great tips and pictures on his HSOforum you might like to take a look at.
Guest
I match my hook to the size of my bait.. doesnt make a difference if its channels or flats I am targeting.Right now I am using my smallest hooks of the year depending on what the fish are hitting that day which can be a couple fatheads on a small, lightwire circle hook(#1 is my preferred size), to a #3/0 light wire circle or octopus hook for a larger chunk of bait.. compared to a couple fatheads.Days like today it does make a difference. The fish were finicky and just pecking away at the bait. Smaller light wire hooks were working great and I got schooled using a larger hook(3/0) with the same bait.Normal catfishing... or any warm water peiod of the year.. I use 3/0 - 10/0 Gamakatsu octopus hooks for cut and live bait. $1.69 a pack is hard to beat for a strong, sharp hook.
