Hey guys im looking for info on redwing eyes. I know the season is open down there earlier but when? I havent picked up a regs book yet. Also I have a 14 foot alumacraft with an 18 horse on it. Is this big enough boat for the river down there? I never fished redwing And i was told somthing about not getting too close to dams. My question is will my rig be adequate enough to fish redwing area, and what techniques are u guys putting fish in the boat with down there? Thanks for any info!!!!!

Bassboy, You rig will do just fine. Your biggest issue is fishing in close quarters. You could have guys drifting along aide your boat as close as 10ft apart. crazy.gif So boat control as a big deal. As for the dam it self no worries you have to stay 300 ft away. The wing dams could be a issue. Wing dams are rock formations used to control the flow of the current. You can see a line on the water surface the wing dam will be up stream from there. If you follow the main current flow you could be alright. You best presentation is jig/minnow. I recommend you watch the videos on river walleye presentations by IN-FISHERMAN.

I think if you watch both videos 1. River locations, 2.River Presentations, you will have the best info. I'm thinking of going down myself soon it can be a real fun time.

Season never closes on Pool 4 and your boat is just fine. Several ways to fish down there. Vertical jig drifting the channel break, pitching jigs on wing dams and rip rap and dragging the sand flats. You didn't mention a trolling motor so you'll need to use you motor to control the drift. If going vertical try to match the current and stay straight up and down. Keep the jig about 6" to 1 ft above the bottom. You'll see a bunch of boats up by the dam and the Y. Just watch them and then jump right in. Pitching the wingdams is a early morning and dusk affair. Without a trolling motor it is best for you to anchor a cast away and work the face of the wingdam with a jig. Pitching rip rap you can drift with the current. Dragging involves casting your jig about 50ft back and moving slowly up or down stream. Somedays upstream is the way to go other days it is downstream. Downstream dragging is more difficult to master than upstream but bigger fish tend to come on the downstream drift. The goal is to keep your jig just above the bottom. This is a shallow water tactic. You should be in 8ft to 14ft depths. Takes a bit to get the hang of it but it puts fish in the boat. For your first trip I'd suggest launching out of Everts. Dean is a great guy and knows exactly what is working. He'll be glad to set you up and show you where to go. Again I use ringworms and paddletails for all the above. The walleye in my avatar is a Pool 4 fish caught pitching a ringworm to rip rap.
