Confused on MMC cards

Guest

Question

I'm sure this topic has been beat to death, but I'm still lost. frown.gif

I've got a Lowrance LCX-15MT and I'm looking for an MMC card that has lake maps and contours on it. Specifically, I'd like Waconia on it (I'd like Lake Ida in Alexandria too, but doesn't look like it comes on an MMC card).

I'm curious what the differences are between Navionics HotMaps and LakeMaster's Pro Maps, other than cost. Any advice you can steer my way?

I don't believe that you are going to find a MMC card with the aboved mentioned lakes yet (at least not an accurate one).

Being that I fish Ida A LOT myself I wouldn't mind one either. Here's what I do. Mark your points on the computer and then transfer waypoints over to the GPS unit. I then print out maps with those waypoints on it and go from there.

The ProMap Contour Series Map have Waconia on its offering. It comes in a MMC format. I use the MMC chip for Leech, Mille Lacs, Gull and Winnibigosh in my X-15. They are real nice. I am sure Rick will chime in on how you could order via this site and support both FM.com and Lake Maps.

I'm gonna try to help here, as I just went through some of this myself, purchasing a new GPS and some software...

I have a Lowrance i-Finder Pro, and I have the Navionics HotMaps MMC card for it. This provides me with contour maps of 60-odd lakes in Minnesota for the GPS unit.

The Pro-Map series has fewer lakes (limited to some of the larger, more popular lakes), but from what I can gather they are quite a bit more accurate and detailed than the Navionics HotMaps.

The Lake Master series - again, from what I understand - provides maps of a lot of lakes, but they ARE NOT downloadable directly to the GPS unit. You need to mark waypoints on the map on your computer (mark those underwater humps and bars) and then download the waypoints (you get just the coordinates, now) into your GPS unit. This will provide you with a waypoint to get you close, but not a map displayed on your GPS.

These are not always precisely accurate...but they will get you close enough to structure that you can easily find it with your other electronics.

I hope I got all that right...it can be kind of confusing, and took me a while to get it all straight when I was shopping for a new GPS and software. At least, I hope I have it straight...and I hope it helps.
