Centering your Trailer....

Trailblazin

Question

Bought bunk guid on's last year and 9 times out of 10, boat centered perfectly. This year, I cannot get the darn thing straight?

I make sure I am not in too deep, tires are level (OK, once the were not but I was in a hurry), pressure in tires are the same, etc....The bunk guides are not tight, allowing for about 1 inch gap as I was told this was best?

It is a 16ft on a Kravan trailer.

Any advice?

I have the same issues, the further out of the water the rollers are the better it goes on straight, in most cases. Maybe you could just not lower the trailer in so far. I know that my boat is a little heavy to the right side, since it's a single console, which usually leaves the boat barely on the roller on the console side, once again I just roll the whole boat on the trailer and it seems to work ok. Yesterday I barely had the trailer in the water because the launch was so shallow, and I didn't have a problem.

I also didn't think it was possible, and may not be in your case, but with wet rollers I can move the boat on the trailer, and straighten it out.

What seems to help me is having one person pushing or pulling the boat twords them as I am cranking it up. I can tell if the boat will be coming on straight.
But these are just rollers.

I have this problem when the ramp itself is not level. All I do to correct is get the front on straight then hook up, Back trailer further in water to re float back end then drive out a little quick. Seems to straighten it.

Once in awhile I've gotten on crooked for one reason or another. I've just put the hold down strap on the side that is high extra tight and left the one off of the low side, Drive afew miles being carefull to hit all the bumps. this seems to level it out. Make sure you keep an eye on the tiedown so it doesn't get lost. then after a few miles put on the other strap and readjust the first.

Did 2 things: One, I lossened one of the bunk guide on's. Did not have any problems getting centered. Then, @ another ramp yesterday, I see the boat going on straight, but it was not. I did hook up, and backed in the water to let the boat float and drive away quicker and it did center.

I will go with bunks next time, these rollers are a pain!
