Heat Wave?

Hey WxGuy is it true we are going to be getting a "Heat Wave" next week? I heard that it is suppose to get up in the lower 50's? That should be a good time to hit them trout streams again.... cool.gif Any truth to it? I heard it from a competitor station, just wanted to see if the weather guru agreed!!

Good question. I'd be all for it if it were to happen and I never rule anything out, but right now everything is pointing to a big NO on the 50's for next week. I think we'll probably get back to the 30's though. That's not too bad for fishing in March...as long as we can get above the freezing mark with sunshine or 40s with overcast for a good baetis hatch.

I do think that around the 2nd to 3rd week in March we'll see some warmer weather with 50's not out of the question.

For the 'sconny anglers season opener on the 4th of March I'm beginning to think the weather might be taking another turn to the colder after a little dose of snow just prior to the weekend, but we'll have to wait and see.

Hey Fish_Hunter,

I see your getting the itch to hit the streams again as well. 50's sure would be great! Maybe if we think warm thoughts we can get back out there soon.

Things need to warm up in a hurry for the Wisconsin opener. I was at my wifes uncles place on "a river" in western 'sconny and things looked frozen. The long riffles and runs were open but some deep pools were frozen. Of course that was last Saturday night, twas a bit brisk that night. grin.gif

I was going to hit Hay Creek on Sunday but that wind was wippin' from the northwest. smirk.gif

Either way I'm itching to get out.

You got that right, the ice fishing hasn't been all that great for me this winter and it seems the best fishing I had was for those troutskis!! smile.gif That warm spell we had earlier was good enough for me, if we could throw a few more weekends like that in before spring finally shows up I would be content. That day you (WCS) and I got out was perfect!!

Hey WxGuy, I got a few questions for ya... Was wondering if you know if right below the dam in Lanesboro is open for winter fishing? It looks like it from the map, but can't I tell, and I didn't see any signs there the last time I stopped.

Also at what point does the cold actually turn the fish off? or is it just that the warmer temps produce a hatch that increases their feeding desire? Does that make any sense?

WCS we will have to start looking at getting back out there on the Rush and continue our adventure!!!

Yes, the water below the dam is open. Give it a shot! Tomorrow and Friday will be okay days to head out if you've got the chance.

Being cold-blooded, trout's metabolism definitely slows down with the water temperatures in the mid-30s where they are now. They are still feeding, though. This time of year the trout are podded up more than in warmer months, and you've got a great chance to catch more fish in one location. You've also got a great chance to spook a whole lot of fish if you don't watch your step. smile.gif

When water temps get up to the 45-50 range they will be feeding a lot more aggressively, but you definitely don't have to wait that long before you will catch fish.

Fish_Hunter,

Looking forward to our next outing. We have to convince WxGuy to schedule these warmer days on the weekends and not on workdays. The past few weeks have been like that. Mild mid week and colder on the weekends.

Yeah I'm getting very anxious to get back out again!! I have noticed that weather pattern myself? hmmm...anything you can do about that WxGuy?

Hey thanks for the info. WxGuy, WCS and I got out back in January and enjoyed the weather. WCS laid into a fair one and the next day my girlfriend and I made it down to Lanesboro and Preston area and had a good day as well. I was kind of worried about that dam, but nobody said anything while we were there I happened to land 3 fish there. We also noticed how "podded up" (I like that term)they were. Boy do they scatter when they spook!! shocked.gif Ahh all this talk is just making me want to go even more!! smile.gif

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
