Yamaha oil leak...

smoker craft

Question

Father in laws boat motor late 80s 40 hp oil injected. The oil tank will leak all the way down. No visible damage to the tank or the line. The only thing I can see is may be the line is hard as a rock wonder if it is suposed to be soft and the thin little wire clamps won't clap tight any more. Should the line be soft.

Ideally, yes. The clamps won't constrict the plastic enough when it gets hardened if they have been removed. You could also get hairline cracks in the line as well. If you get new hose, make sure it is fuel grade and spend the extra little bit of money for quality stuff. You don't want to starve that engine of oil! A reputable marine or small engine shop will steer you in the right direction.
