Is 12 # to large on a 10 # reel ?

HOOKUP

Question

I just purchased a new Pflueger Presedent spinning reel and I didn't purchase line because I knew I had some at home. I didn't relize that it was 12 # trilene sensation and not 10 #. I spooled it anyway even though the reel is for 10 # max.
I guess what I am asking is what ill effects will it have on the reel ? Thanks!

Randy

No worries mate smile.gif.

My unprofessional(yet experienced) opinion on this is that it is no big deal. Of course you will have a bit less line on the reel, but most of us change the line long before the "backing" ever sees the light of day(unless you get one of those nasty snarls with 100 yards out; that stinks!).

The recommendations are just a general rule. Going up and down a bit with a different diameter line should be just fine.

I use 17lbXT on a reel rated for up to 12lb. test; works just fine.

SERIOUSLY! It was THIS big!
