Splashguard mounting / fiberglass prob.

Question

Has anyone out there found a good solution to having the screws backing out of the holes in the mounting brackets on a glass tiller boat?

The holes in the transom of the glass have gotten bigger and even after upsizing the screws that hold the bracket to the transom, the screws come out and the holes have gotten even larger again.

The problem is on the small bracket closest to the motor on the cutout side. When I go to fill the 75 hrs. with oil, I have to open the motor cowling and pressure is put on that bracket.

I need to find a way to fill those holes up with something strong that will hold a screw well so I can re-mount the bracket.

The boat is an older Warrior tiller.

Thanks.

Punch a hole in the center of 2" masking tape and put over the screw hole . Fill the hole with fiber glass body filler, something like Tiger Hair. After you filled the hole wipe of the excess and remove the making tape. When cured drill a new hole and put the original screw back in.

I have seen those lead concrete screw anchors used for trolling motor mounts, but don't know about the size screw you are looking for.

What I am talking about is kind of like the plastic drywall screw anchors, just the lead variety used the same way in concrete.
