fishinkrop
Im thinking about putting my calcutta 150 on my new st croix muskie rod with 65lb spider wire. Do you think I will be happy with this set up? Or would I like a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur? I have to find some thing to do Im so sick of being in this house! thanks for the help Jeff krop
Deitz Dittrich
Only one way to find out.. The calcutta 150 is a bit small for muskie fishing. You would probably like a larger handeled reel a little better. The calcutta will handle it fine, I just think you would maybe be better of with a larger reel. Brett Erickson
The 150 will be too small to handle the weight of most muskie baits. Not only that, you will not get much 50#+ line on it. For throwing the heavier muskie baits, you need a reel where the line guide travels when you cast. In the Shimanos, you need to go to the 300 or 400 size reels. If the line guide does not travel, you will go through many pawl/worm gears and you will wear your line much more quickly from the added friction of it coming off the spool at such severe angles.Brett Ericksonwww.thornebros.com
