What do you think of these?

Sadly, they aren't mine. Saw that a guy caught them out of his pond. Ah I wish we could catch ones like this in Foster Arend's Pond.

That first one is not a brown. It's a real nice Brookie. That never would have come out of a pond. The second one sure is a brown and it's so fat and the tail so small relative to the rest of the fish it looks like itwould have a hard time even swimming. I've seen photos of bigger trout but those are real fatties.

Those pond brookies can definitely get nice and fat if the forage is right. It looks like that brookie's food of choice is anything that moves!

I rescind my comment that they can't come out of a pond. I myself have caught some nice ones out of a northern lake. I don't know what I was thinking. I've never caught anything like those pigs, however. Out of curiosity, when you say "pond" what are we talking about? And where, not specifics just general region. Western states, southern, canada?

midwest. both out of <1 acre ponds. i suspect that they may have had feedings. i don't know entire story.

carlcmc, are there decent trout in Foster-Arend? I've been curious about that lake, went there for an Easter Egg hunt last year and kinda wondered about it...

stocked 4 times per year by the DNR as a put and take lake. Fish routinely caught in the 14-18 range. Occasional bruisers seen cruising and rarely caught reaching into the 5lb plus range. Extremely clear water and very lureshy fish. Can be difficult to catch on artificials. Many caught on powerbait.

WOW! Can you winter fish it? I imagine it's spring fed, is there good ice on it? I had no idea... I've never caught trout through the ice. Seen 'em, never hooked 'em.

yes. people catch trout there all winter long. I would cpr the bigger ones. I have only fished and caught trout there a few times. Never kept any but if one were to keep some for dinner the 14-16 inch size probably would be best would be my guess.

I live in Northfield right now, but am looking to move closer to Rochester as the better half works at Mayo. Originally from up north - small town named Dent. Father still lives there. Grew up fishing the 1000+ lakes in Ottertail County. Until this year, I never dropped a line anywhere south of the metro.

If the ice holds, I might give Foster Arends a try - sounds like fun!
