Whistle commands for pointing dogs.

Which commands do you train your pointing dogs with? I am interested in introducing the whistle with my two red setters. Any suggestions?

I don't use a whistle, but I have taught some basic hand signals, (turn left/right). Some guys use them to gain attention, then give a command and still others train two quick bursts for stop/ one for here long blast for out ect. Good luck, we still have to get up to Four Brooks one of these days.

Any time you whistle or talk with your pointing dog, you run the risk of spooking birds. Let the dog hunt.

Difficult to do with younger dogs ... but with my eight year old Brittany we may hunt for an hour or more and never say a word - except: nice job bring it here .............
