Question for X67c experts

I just bought the X67c on Wednesday and got to take it out for a few hours yesterday afternoon/evening. So far, I like it a lot. Here is my question:

Right about the time the sun went down, I moved to an area in about 35 FOW. On my screen, from athe bottom up to about 10 FOW, it was almost solid color. This was in both sonar and flasher mode. I tried several holes in the same area with the same results and messed around with every setting I could. I could get it to dissappear by turning the sensitivity way down, but then I couldn't see my jig. Any ideas? I'm guessing it was plankton or something, but I am new to this sonar thing. After than I moved to a different location in about 21 FOW and it worked fine.

Thanks, and any Lowrance tips will be appreciated!

If you hit Menu twice, and select Software Information, What verison is listed?

If there weren't other around you with sonar, it was seeing something. This thing will see air bubbles, and tell you if you lost your waxworm off your jig.

If there was a chance it was someone elses sonar, then that would be what I would expect you to see with an "untweaked" x67c. I've not had a situation I couldn't resolve this year with this:

Go the graph mode, and try this:

1) Turn off Autosensitivity: Menu, Auto-sensitivity, Enter to get rid of "X"

2) Turn off Auto-depth range: Menu, Auto Depth range, Enter to get rid of "X"

3) Set depth range: Menu, Depth Range, select your Max depth to display (such as "40"), Enter

4) Crank up chart speed to 100%: Menu, Chart Speed, select 100%, Enter

5) Turn on all digital filtering

--> a) Turn on Surface clutter filter: Menu, Sonar Features, Surface Clarity, select High

--> B) Turn on Noise Rejection: without hitting anything else, Down Arrow to Noise Rejection, select High, EXIT button (you can decrease these later if you want, but I run them both on high all the time)

6) Change Ping Speed around, start at 100%: Menu, Ping Speed, select speed, Enter (try other speeds, too)

7) Now, re-adjust sensitivity (Since I started doing this, I have never gone below 90%)

You can now flip between graph and flasher displays if you want.

Pause after every step to observe if there are changes in screen clutter. Let us know what happens.

Software Version 1.5.0

Build: RM2734D

I think I had everything set as you described. I was not within about 50 yards of another fisherman, so I'm assuming it wasn't interference. I'm not doubting that it was seeing something, just wondering what it was or if you had seen anything like this. Otherwise, it performed up to expectations!

I read another post similar to this on the Duluth forum. Someone was having a problem with a LX3 showing alot of clutter near the bottom.

People seem to come to the conclusion that it was either Plankton or some other sort of water insect.

Seemed the problem happend around sun set and after, which is the time that these critters become more active I guess.

You can search the duluth forum a few days back and see what the posts said.
