best line

Crappie Kid- Welcome to the site!

I have found that Berkely's Vanish does seem to hold memory more than your typical mono-line. Not sure why really.

I typically spool most of my reels up with Berkley Micro Ice. It comes in a clear steel color and I feel that color doesn't seem to bother or spook the fish much.

Another line I started using last year was P-Line Florice for my lighter lines. Yes it is a flurocarbon line, like Vanish, but doesn't have the memory problem as Vanish.

I fished with it last year going after late season pannies and found large active largemouth bass! That 2 pound test stood up to those hawgs. Needless to say, I've got confidence in this line now!

Lots of lines out there... Can spend a day just looking at all the different types in the sporting good stores...

Still to this day, I find that Trilene XL is the best line around!! I use it from 2lb test up to 10lb test on some of my ice fishing set-ups, and line memory never seems to be a huge problem. At times, a person gets a bad spool, but that can be said about any line. Another thing I do like about XL, is I get more bang for my buck. Fishing a lot, I go through a lot of line, as I re-spool quite often throughout the season. With the XL I can get larger spools, compared to most ice fishing specific lines.

One thing is for sure though, most florucarbons do get line memory, especially on our tiny ice fishing reels. But, so far, Vanish Transition has been good to me in that department. I personally havent use the P-Line, but know a lot of people who do, and are quite satisfied with it!!

All in all, the best lines out there to combat line memory, are superbraids, such as Power Pro or Fireline. You can now find these line specific for ice fishing too!!!

P-Line Floroice is actually a copolymer line that is coated in flurocarbon, it's not solid flurocarbon. This is done exactly for the purpose of reducing line twist and memory. It also helps with water resistance, helps avoid freeze-up, and causes the line to be virtually invisible in the water. This line can withstand some harsh conditions and it performs much like you would expect from a line in mild/warm conditions.

I use P-Line Floroice on just about all of my ice fishing rigs now. Everything from 2 pound test for pannies all the way to 8 pound test for larger gamefish.

And when targeting pike and lakers I'll go with P-Line Floroclear which is very similar to Floroice but it's available in higher pound tests and the diameter is slightly thicker. It's designed more for open water fishing but it works great for larger gamefish through the ice too.

P-Line has a wide variety of line types to choose from, no matter the season or conditions. I've been very pleased with P-Line in the last couple years since I started using it.
