Just got back from fishing Manitou. I stayed away from the middle portion of the lake and found 10 inches of ice. 5 white ice and 5 clear. Fishing was good. 2 of us managed to get a limit. I did not go too far up ther lake as we could see open areas of water from where we were fishing. All the slush that was on the lake last week was froze up. no problems.

No problem. Yes, this is very helpful. I actually saw snowmobile tracks by Essox going out on the lake. I did not go in that way, as I use a trappers trail and come in from the west. I would think the Lakes making more ice now with the top layer crusted up, but some of those open areas may have just a skim of ice now too. Be careful around those "bottleneck" areas..

There were people fishing both lakes last week-end. I know 2 weeks ago someone fell through Vista and Dogfly. It was also extremly slushy a couple weeks ago. Last week end we had no slush, it had froze up good. I was told to be careful around any inflows/bottlenecks. I would assume ice up there is better, as it was -14 in International Falls this morning.

Thanks CNG, I am hoping to get up in the next 3 weeks to give it a try. Had some friends down out of atikokan this past weekend, havnt heard how they did yet. Was sledding in the Orr area and saturday morning was a bit chilly but hopefuly it helped to freeze lakes down a bit.
