srj
MuskyB, you might try calling the MNR fisheries folks out of S Lookout. Sometimes you get help, sometimes not. If you head up there, do check out Big V. It's truly the Canadian experience--incredibly scenic and very, very few boats. Maybe none.
jackfish
Bigdog:I live in Sunset Country and fish 140 days a year. Pretty much fished all the lakes in the area. If I were to go to Canada for the first time,I would probaby go to the hottest bites (Rainy for smallies, walleye and pike, Lake of the Woods for largemouth, walleye pike, muskie, crappie). Get you feet wet first but don't expect to catch all the species you want on one trip. Again, focus on the best bite at the right time of year. In Sunset Country try the best lakes that have have services you might want and are charted with indepth detailed maps. The only two I know are Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake. (Lac Seul isn't in Sunset Country and it isn't charted). These lakes are world class and believe me, just because you travel 5 more hours north, the fishing doesn't always get better for every species all year. These two giant lakes offer full service resorts, camps and guide services which I recommend for your first trip. I don't know how many folks tell me that their trip was slow because they couldn't find fish fast enough. Guides can help you here.Hope this helpsJackfish
Eastwind
Jeff,Do they require Crown Land camping permits near Grassy Narrows to camp on an island? .
Scenic
We rent the island from Misty’s Fishing Adventure. I believe it is $12.00 per night per person. If you rent a campsite from a resort you do not have to have a Queen permit.
