My wife has finnaly decided to try ice fishing with me, my question is, where is a good place to start?

She will not go to Mil Lacs during the winter, and she prefers walley fishing. Any sugestion on where to take her for a one day outing? We live in the north east metro area.

Norma..Id try to convince her on milacs. They have some nice rentals up there and the fish usually cooperate.Winter fishing can be a pretty tough sell for someone trying it for the first time.My wife doesnt ice fish but she does like going up to the pond once a year.Bring a portable to do some searching..

I agree Mille Lacs is a great place to start someone off ice fishing if they are the least bit hesitant. There are sleepers and day rentals if she doesn't want to sleep on the ice. Shacks are warm and comfortable and if another couple goes along you can get into some great card games. Also your chances of catching fish is pretty good.

I took my wife to Mille Lacs many years ago and it was a hit. No problem after that in getting time to go fishing on Mille Lacs and we included the kids when they got old enough. It was a great family weekend vacation that got me lots and lots of points.

Mil Lacs is definatly out. My wheeler went thru earlier this year on Mil Lacs and she will have nothing to do with it.

I do have a nice portable to sit in however. How is the whitefish chain or gull doing?

Ever fish lake Alexander??? I think they even have some rentals there too. its just south of Motley on hwy 10. You might look into that, my advice is to keep her warm and even cooking something for her on the lake, keep it fun even if the fish don't cooperate.

Take her to Mille Lacs and to the west side. That way you can show her that people are driving safely with full size vehicles. I am guessing you were on the east side when you went through. I agree though Mille Lacs or take her for a ride and bring her to Red. You will definatly catch a few walleyes there even if you can't keep them and there is plenty of ice for you....
