CrewCab
I am looking for recommendations for a new GPS for my boat. I bought a Lakemaster chip last year, and would like a new color unit this year. I asked on the equipment forum, but only got a couple of responses, all about hand held units. Also, do you prefer a combo GPS and fish finder? Thanks,CrewCab
Deitz Dittrich
CC- welcome to FishingMinnesota.comIT really depends on your budget. You do get what you paid for. I know Lowrance isn't a sponsor of FM but in my opinion they truely do make the best open water unit on the market. I have always ran Lowrance units in my boat. If you can afford to have a seperate GPS unit and have the space in your boat for a seperate GPS unit, by all means go that way, so you dont have to split screen your one unit. However, many of us dont have the dash space or $$ to justify that. I have an all in one unit, the LMS480 its a black and white unit, and I know you were looking for color.I would suggest hitting one of the larger store, ie Gander/Cabelas/thornebros. and talking to a sales man there... again, you get what you pay for, and with the color units it seems screen size and pixel cound is what you are paying for...Good luck, and happy shopping! I myself hate shopping, unless its for fishing gear!
Bushwacker
Last year I was in your same situation and I bought a Lowrance LMS332 C. It worked perfect for my needs and works great with the LakeMaster chip. I opted for the gps/sonar combo. With that you can still go full screen GPS or full screen sonar depending on the situation. My unit did fry during a tournament and I sent it in to Lowrance and they had a brand new one out to me within a week, no questions asked. That kind of customer service is priceless.
