Glass Globe -vs- Wire Screen Globe..

The Yeti

Recommended Posts

I had the same problems. I have tried them all. The screen is good if you never fish in the wind. The best I found was the glass that had a heavey wire frame.

Now I use a good quality headlamp from JR's. It gives me all the light I need and it is never in the way or broken

I also use the Petzel head lamp. It is more convenient, more compact and easier to carry. I don't use a lantern anymore because the head lamp works so well. Also, I don't do a lot of night fishing. Just fish until about 7pm at the latest. I have broken too many lanterns globes in my portable and I could have bought an extra head lamp with the money I spent.

I use mine inside my portable (out of the wind) and it works great. You don't have to be so carefull about banging your lantern around and the temp. change when you shut it off doesn't crack your globe when it is realy cold.

I've had good results with my wire mesh globe. I've never had a problem with it in my portable. If I'm outside my portable with light I have a headlamp on or I have already shut the lantern down to cool before packing. But in more recent winters I have totally gone to LED lighting, but the lantern did serve it's purpose for many years.
