Suggestions for hook type/size?

I am working on putting a few new lures together for the upcoming season. Its my first attempt, so I am curious what trebles would be the best for some pretty big topwaters and jerkbaits. Brand, size, etc.

Thanks.

I buy the Gamakatsu 4pks of trebles at Thorne Bros. Check out the lure components section on their site, they have all kinds of things, paints, hooks, weights, eyelets, etc. The Gamakatsu hooks are a little more expensive, about $5 or $6 per pack, but you never know when the 50+ fish is going to hook up.

Size: I test them out to make sure that the size does not impair the action of the lure. Cranks I usually beef up a little over the stock hook, but it all depends on the lure.

Lots of good brands, I'd go with a 5/0 size with a fairly long shank for a big topwater. Couple ideas: Mustad 3551 or 35656BR, VMC 8650 or 9650BZ or 7650 or 9626. Other than Thorne Bros, other places to look are Stamina or Rollie & Helen's Musky Shop. Good luck.

I feel like a copy-cat here. I use the the same as Cooter brought up the 5/0 size VMC 8650 OR 9650 BZ, depending of the lure type/shape. I also perfer to use split rings my self both the Wolverine tackle super rings ( sz 5,6,7 ) or Bucher super split rings ( sz 5 & 7) are very good. It is my believe that the rings give more strength and the hook more movement and less give on when fighting the ole mighty musky. Both Thorne Brothers and Rollie and Helens carry these goodies.
