01/03 11:32 Vikings: Childress, Cotrell interviewing

THE NEWS

The Vikings are scheduled to meet with Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress on Tuesday. The veteran assistant coach arrived in Minneapolis on Monday and will spend most of Tuesday meeting with team officials, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The Vikings also plan to interview their own defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell on Tuesday.

Our View

The Vikings are also in the hunt for a general manager-type to oversee their personnel. However, they do not intend to hire one person to fill both the head coaching and general manager position. There are also rumblings that Cottrell is planning to interview with the Chargers for a spot on their defensive coaching staff.

01/03 11:10 Packers: Childress to interview

THE NEWS

Packers general manager Ted Thompson is scheduled to interview Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress on Wednesday. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Childress is scheduled to arrive in Green Bay on Wednesday night after he finishes his interview with the Vikings on Tuesday.

Our View

The Packers are also expected to interview their own defensive coordinator Jim Bates for the head coaching position. Childress is an intriguing option, though, as the Eagles essentially runs the same offense as the Packers. Thus, if Childress were hired, quarterback Brett Favre wouldn't have to learn a new offensive at this late stage in his career.
