Transporting Fish?

Alright I began to think about transporting fish from Lake of the Woods to my house and the question popped up. Do I need to freeze the walleyes and saugers and clean them when i get home or just leave an inch of skin or so on the fillet and then bring them home? That is if i catch some and can't eat them all right away when i am there. Any help on that would be great, Thanks.

Fillets must show at least 1-square inch patch of skin with scales so fish species can be identified. If your at a resort and they clean them they usually gve you a transportation slip with there lic. # and your Lic. # on it for transporting fish from LOW. You have to remember that saugers prepared in this manner are counted as walleyes. So Leavng your Saugers intact is best unless your having the resort take care of it all and getting a transportation slip from them. The limit of walleyes is only four from LOW and the daily limit is the possession limit. You can have 8 saugers but no walleyes. Hope this helps

I guess I never realized even if the skin was left on the Sauger was still considered a Walleye. How the heck are you suppose to transport Sauger?

I like to geT my fish cleaned, froze, and leave for home. We do have a fish fry but still like to bring some fish home for the wife and kids. Especially if ya get a good run a Saugers and only a couple eyss... confused.gif

That's why you take your fish to the resort have them clean them and package them. That way you can get a transport document from them with there Lic. # and your name and Lic. # on it. Other wise if you fillet your fish and just take them home your breaking the law. Because fillet saugers are considered walleyes and you can only have four walleyes and four saugers or eight saugers each. By having them fillet at the resort and getting the receipt there saying you have four walleyes and four saugers even if they are filleted. If you were stopped and had 16 fillets all considered walleyes you be fined for over the limit. Option is keeping your saugers whole just gutted out fillet them when you get home. crazy.gif
