Flatlander
Just a friendly reminder that ice truly is never safe. I was chasing pheasants around the cattails yesterday afternoon, and even with the cold snap we had, I managed to go in up to my waist. Anywhere the cattails were still fairly upright or any open patches of ice, I was fine. Where they're matted down flat, be very careful. Thankfully, my wool pants kept me reasonably warm heading back to the truck. The thing that sucked(even more so than my buddy rolling around laughing at me 20 yards away), was watching him make it to the corner of the slough and having birds boiling out all around him. I guess that was actually pretty cool, it just would have been a little better if I was shooting instead of shivering. Thinking of pulling out the waders for the weekend. gundy89
I fell ya brother!! I went in up to the belly button last week. I'm glad I always bring a change of clothes, otherwise the hunt would have been cut short. Good luck the in the last week. I'll get 2 more days in MN and the last week in ND. harvey lee
The ice around cattails and weeded shoreline is NEVER safe.
Roamer
Ya, but that's where the CHICKENS are this time of year. So you've got to take those calculated risks and be prepaired. Let others know where you will be hunting, carry extra cloths and boots in your vehicle. I've been in twice this year and because of being prepaired was able to hunt the rest of the day no worse for the wear.
