Flooded 97 Chev PU

83walleye

Question

Could someone tell me how to start my 97 Chev PU? Believe I flooded it this morning(-10 this morning) - it turns over fine, just had the fuel pump replaced in September, kind of fires but not enough to get going. Do I hold the accelerator down while cranking or what?

It isn't advised, but hold the peddle down and turn it over. It may take a bit to fire, then it'll buck and snort and eventually clear itself. You could also try spraying a bit of fogging oil in intake when you first try to give some lube to the cylinders.

Hold the pedal all the way to the floor then turn the key on and crank. Hold the pedal down until it starts or untilyou shut off the key. This will put the vehicle in "deflood mode" wich in theory shuts off the injectors.

If it won't start at -10 I'd say you have other issues! Its going to get alot colder may be worth getting checked out. It could be a simple as a fresh set of plugs, or it might just need to be traded in on a new Tundra. grin.gif
