Bass Fishing on the Clam River Flowage and Devils Lake

Recommended Posts

Has anyone fished The Clam River Flowage or Devil's Lake in the early spring for Bass???

I am already planning a Bass trip in early May. What are the reputations on these 2 lakes?? Any patterns, lures that work, etc. would be helpful. I haven't been on either of these lakes, but I would like a little background info on either of these 2 lakes.

thanks--

I'm not sure about devils because I don't open water fish it but clam flowage has probably got more smallies than large mouth. Typical smallie jigs/tubes/cranks- lots of small ones and a few large mouth but if you're large mouth fishing I'd sure pick a different lake- hopefully someone else has got better news for you than my experiences.

On Devils I'd be fishing in 6 to 14 feet of water. Find weeds in those depths and you're going to find bass. It's hard NOT to catch bass on Devils. So just throw whatever you've got confidence in for bass and you'll get bit. Maybe things have changed in recent years (I haven't been there in about 5 years), but fish above 14" aren't very common. They're out there. But there's so many smaller ones that you don't see many over 14". Great action lake for bass and pike with some walleyes mixed in. Also a good panfish lake.

I have been to devils a lot last summer/spring

Lots of little bass, spent an intire weekend looking for something over 16" and never found one.... threw everything, fished everywhere, but I have seen some big bass in the shallows in the spring, just won't bite. Did I mention there are lots of little one?
