LX-3 as a depth finder question?

I was reading my manual yesterday and it said you can put your LX-3's transducer on the ice to check the depth.

Does anyone do this, cause I thought it wasn't good to turn your unit on without it being in the water..??

Just pour a little water on the ice and it will be able to shoot thru the ice. You might have to turn up the gain a bit.

I was the one that posted that I had heard that it wasn't a good idea to run your flasher out of the water for extended peroids of time. I have since talked to the people who are in the know.. And it is FINE to run them out of the water.

As per your question now. Yes your LX-3 will shoot threw ice just fine. As long as its fairly clear ice. You can even mark weeds and fish. A little dab of water is all that is needed so that your unit gets good contact with the ice.

Good luck!
