Snow cover on the lakes

Im from about 2hrs SE of the cities on I94 and there is less than 2 inches of snow in the ice. many people on here have been saying that the snow is really slowing down the icemaking..... how much snow do you have up there? is it more than here because i would like to get out this weekend but haven been able to check the ice since last weekend(1-3"then).

Same in the twin cities. I checked medicine lake today and it had anywhere from 2-4 inches of ice. There was, like you've seen, 1-3 inches of snow on the lake.

I would stay off the ice for another week or so, until things start to firm up. But then again it sounds like some guys are getting out so it's a personal call. I would rather wait a couple weeks when I have a fairly good idea that the ice will be walkable before I venture out. Then again I'm about 30 pounds overweight and don't need to be pulling myself out of a large hole in the ice.
