Any downfalls to the fish trap voyager?

I have the old type Voyager and love it...except I don't like the old type seats. My fishing buddy and i are both over 300#'s and we fit in there easily with two holes each, two vexilars, Aquaview, 20# propane tank with Mr. Heater on it. Tackle, minnows, cooler and whatever else we drag along. Buy some of the nylon strap rod holders that they sell on this site. I made my own because I had the stuff laying around but the price is right and they work great.

Does anyone know if you can replace the old type seating system and upgrade to the new one?

I just bought one and put it together today. 1st off the instructions that came in the box were for a 5600. So I went to Clams websites and downloaded the instructions for the Voyager(no biggy). The instructions aren't the greatest and it does take some time by yourself.

Putting the Hi-Fax on by yourself is a real pain. Good thing I was warned to put them on before I started putting it together.(I would say this is a 2 person build.

Other then that it is slicker then snot on a doorknob.

I looked at all of the different models portables that Gander in Duluth had today. I must say I was pretty impressed with the Ice Armor material that the Clam Brand Was made of. I really liked the heavy duty zipper that the Otter's had. The Clams also had some really nice accessories in their models (i.e. gear and drink holders). I liked the sleds on the Otters a little better than the other two.

The one feature I was most impressed with, however, were the seats in the Frabil models. WOW! Those are as close to an ice-fishing throne in a portable I have seen.

If I could make a hybrid I would use an Otter Sled, Clam Ice Armor tent/canvas material, Otter zipper and most definately the Frabil seats. I don't know what you would call it. An Ot-cla-bil, maybe grin.gif

have had a voyager for 3 years and for the most part i am happy with it.But if I had to do it over I would probably spend a little extra and go with the otter. I think the canvas is a little more durable. If you have a sunflower style heater be careful frown.gif if the material even grazes it you'll have a hole. Also it just fits in the back of a gmc sonoma extended cab. If you do choose the voyager though you'll have a great unit.
