Thanks for the detailed info Tom! I did end up going with your personal favorite... the Tamron SP AF 200-500mm F5-6.3 with a 1.4 teleconverter. I would be mud if I spent 5K on a lens, 1 K was plenty. I'm not sure if the tri-pod I have is going to sturdy enough for this larger setup... I'll have to figure that out soon enough. If anybody were disagree with you in your statement about this lens thing being a disease... they'd be lying.... HOLY COW.... I want more more more. grin.gif I should be good for a while now and in the spring start looking into the whole Micro thing.

A bit more advice.....get closer to the subject, get better at the post processing, get more out of high ISO shots, work on technique, composition, etc. These all cost little but are a big part of photography. Once you have them mastered (or you win the lottery) then think about spending some more money. You can have the best glass in the world but if you don't master the basics you are wasting a lot of money.
