Pre-Ice Check List for Permanents...

So it's getting to be that time to get the big houses prepped (if they haven't been already!). What are some of the things you do to minimize the on-the-ice fixes? I can think of firing up the stove and cook-top, checking the batteries and lights, and checking the tire pressure. Any others? Thanks, McGurk

Check the bearings if traveling long distances.

New line on the rattle reels if you use them.

One year our coupler broke on the trailer hitch. Had to fix it outside in -20 degree weather. May want to check that.

One that I've heard and seen people forget- check to see that the license is current on the house.

Check your cables or whatever it is that you use to raise and lower.

I didn't include the tidy details of supplying the fish house with plenty of bobbers, hooks, split shot, etc., but I figured you were just talking about the house proper.

Those are just a few of them. When this thread is done, I might steal the ideas and make a real checklist instead of the one I use in my head. cool.gif

Anyone else?

Oh, I'm sure it's fine. Whatever the problem is I'll figure it out on the ice. It's not cold outside or anything.

Actually I did some structural work to make it more stable last summer. I need to fix a leak in the roof this week.

And THAT, my friends, is exactly the attitude I am trying to get away from. I have been along watching my old man ripping his hair out while freezing his cashews off too many times while i was a kid. Just tryin' to help a little by getting and giving a "heads-up."

Trailer Lights, Safety Chains, Condition of Skids, Reflectors, Lic. #, Feel for drafts and seal 'em up, throw out old food (Grosss!), throw out old bait (GROSSER!)

Good Luck! McGurk
