fiberglass boat installs

bwtrout

Question

i was planning on mounting my electronic sensors/transducers with a mounting plate on the transom. it seems like thru hull is a prefered choice for fiberglass boats?

i have a 4' covered bow with my gas tank underneath. will i be able to mount a 6' planer mast to the top of the fiberglass bow using a reinforcement plate underneath? i was planning on stringing 2 mast guide wires for support also.(the short fiberglass covered bow seems structually firm)

About the mast. I would only rely on the fiberglass on the bows deck to keep the bottom of the mast from kicking out and leave all the lateral force up to the guywires.
As far as the tranducer, fibergalss really shouldnt be a deterrent to mount it on the transom. Knowing your going to use the boat on Superior your going to want the full benefits of power and sensitivity from a transom mount.

In the near 20 years that we've been in business, I've never seen one boat come in with problems from a transom-mounted transducer whether we installed it or the customer. Just pre-drill the holes in the diameter of the screw shank, (minus the threads), and then squeeze a dab of silicon in each hole prior to running the screw into it and you'll have years of trouble free use.
