picksbigwagon
I figure after 5 years of use I should replace the blades on my 2hp jiffy lightning, 9' model. I know these new ripper blades are out there, but mine didn't come with them, what do you guys recommend? I saw ice the last couple days on prior lake, not the bays, but the whole of lower prior was covered.....My boat is now in storage and my ice house is down and ready to roll...... IcePro
Hopefully this will help.Jiffy only offers the "Ripper", "Stealth" and "Stealth STX" as replacement blades. If your auger is not a "Stealth" than the choice would be the "Ripper" blade. If you look around you will find bait shops that still have the standard blades availble. The ripper blades will give you better cutting performance and even stay sharper than the standard blade. That is what is great about a chipper blade, 5 years on the same set. You could also sharpen your old blades and I bet they it will cut like a new set.
Hookmaster
I bought my 2 hp Jiffy 8 inch in Dec. 1995 and am still on the origianl blade. Sharpen it at the beginning of the season and maybe at the season end if I have a big late season trip. Still going strong. A chipper blade might not be as fast but they are far more durable and you can sharpen them easily by yourself.
MikeYager - Suzuki
Ditto. That's why I like ripper blades. I can sharpen them myself.
picksbigwagon
I am confused right now.....ripper and chipper are the same thing? I thought I had a chipper blade on there, and ripper blades are the ones that look like a military device for giving haircuts........the blades I have on there right now are pretty stout and hefty even though they are serated so to speak into 6 or 8 teeth on one stout blade..... IcePro
Yes a chipper blade will have 6-8 on one stout blade depending on the blade size. The differance between chipper blade and ripper blade from Jiffy is that on the Ripper blade they put a "V'd" notch in the middle of each chipper blade tooth.
