2006 spring turkey hunt

I started applying for spring turkey hunting last year. I was going to apply for the 2006 spring turkey hunt this weekend amd was wonerdering if anyone knew a good date to apply for. I was thinking the first weekend because I could hunt 3 days, but i wanted someones opinion on maybe when turkeys would be moving more or better chance of getting one. Any information would be great. Thanks

It kinda depends on where you hunt. I think the southern part of the state seems to warm faster, therefore the earlier seasons are best, but in the northern part of the turkey zones they generally get more snow and it takes longer to warm up and for the turkey to get started with the spring rituals. Of course it's all going to depend on mother nature and when she decides it's time for spring. Can't really go wrong with season "C" or "D" state wide unless it's a real early spring. Good luck and be sure to apply by Dec. 2nd.

Like Nova stated, it depends where you hunt....in more ways than one! The number of applications per permit area, per time period, greatly affects whether or not you'll be hunting this spring.

Because I like to get after them every spring, I will sacrifice my selection for peak breeding/gobbling periods in favor of getting drawn to hunt. Even if I'm hunting them the last two seasons, with enough work, you can find active birds (providing mother nature doesn't COMPLETELY shut you down).

Keep your preference number, "application-pressure", AND definitely location of the state as Nova said, in mind when selecting a season. If it doesn't work out, there's always the surplus tags.

Also don't forget about the archery tags for the last 2 seasons. That was my saving grace last year. And what a way to bag a gobbler.

hey guys thanks for the information. I am hunting in the princeton area. I am probably going to hunt the A season so I hope that works out.

Thought I'd offer a fair word of warning; if you apply for season A, you probably won't get picked this year if you've never applied before. For most zones in MN, it takes 2-3 years to get picked for the "A" season. In rare instances, you can get it with no preference points. I have, on one occasion.

If you're really itchin' to get out, thought I'd let you know.
