Bassin between now and freeze-up

buzzin for bass

Recommended Posts

I figure I should be able to get my boat in the water at least 3 maybe 4 more times before the lakes freeze over too thick. I was wondering what others think about technique at this time of year (assuming I'm not the only one crazy enought to be out there). Are jigs or worms about the only option or is it still productive to slow roll a spinnerbait or crankbait? I'm guessing with the drop in water temps the lakes will take after today and tomorrow that presentations will have to be pretty slow.

I went out tuesday just before the snow and I was able to catch 3 bass. The fish were in 10-12 ft and the only way I could catch them was on a rapala DT12 bluegill color. I noticed you are from burnsville. If you get a chance get out to lake marion. I have been having alot of luck out there with some nice sized fish,16-20inches. I will be the one in the orange chevy colorado with the red lund 16footer, stop by and say hi. Hopefully I will beable to get out a few more times before I have to break the ice auger out grin.gif

Thanks for the reply. as for my location I actually just moved to shakopee, but close enough, the drive to marion is only about another 10 minutes than when I lived in Burnsville (this reminds me to change my info). I'll be the one wiht the blue avalache and the 1973 glastron 14 foot runabout coverted into a fishing boat, complete with fishing decks and a livewell.

I think Jig and Pig might be the only thing to throw that'll get them to bite. Very slowly! I don't know, maybe a slow rolling spinnnerbait might get some action. Question now is: What do I do with my other 10 rods?? confused.gif

Ole

PS...I'm starting to go through casting withdrawals!!

I'm nervous about the withdrawls for the up coming hard water, thats a large part of why I plan to spend most of sunday on the water. Hoping that the lake around me will have enough open water (including by the landings) to do some fishing even if it isn't all that productive.

The lake I slow rolled some spinnerbaits last Saturday was completly frozen over last night except for a waterfowl hole. Caught about a half dozen, one 17 1/2 inch fish went 3.9 lbs. I thought that football of a fish was going to explode in my hands! grin.gif

Open water is done.....give me another inch of ice and I'll let the bass come to me. From what I saw on the underwater camera last year, bass are far from dormant during first ice. They might be a little more difficult to get to bite, but they were cruising all over the place, even in schools of three or more.
