overnight fish house?

Hi everyone..I'm looking for a little advice. I'm planning on making a trip the 3rd week of Dec to mille lacs. I'm trying to find out if its better to stay in a fish house or just go with a guide and portable shelters?? Guides are more expensive and an overnight fish house would be a lot of fun, but ultimately I want to catch fish. I can imagine mysef stuck in a house for 2 days without a single bitew. what do you think..thanks fellas

Do you have a portable? Stay in the permanent and use the portable when you need to. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

Most of the resorts that have sleeper houses out put them in areas to catch fish. If you never caught fish in them, they would not get return buisness. With that in mind, I would be willing to bet you would catch more fish with a guide. Truth is, they know the lake, know what the fish do in different weather conditions, bait choice color preferences ect ect.

Like Dave said, a portable is a good choice and then have a perm as a main base.

I agree with Dave on this. Stay in the permanent and when the fishing gets slow, move out in your portable to check out other areas. Found some success last year by doing that. Also allows you to work other structures that may be holding fish.

Depending on what end of the lake you are on, most resorts will not have sleepers on the ice until after Christmas sometime. At least not in great fishing spots. Obviously that could change with a very cold December. I would go with the guide and possibly rent a sleeper "on-shore" if the weather hasn't cooperated by that time.

Thanks for your input. MY problem is that I only have a hand auger(In Illinois this works fine). Maybe I can rent a power auger.I was planning on going to Mille lacs. I guess I'll just have to draw a resort out of a hat. THanks again guys

I wouldn't draw out of a hat. McQuoids Inn is the answer.

I would definitely use McQuiods. Rented their house last year and was fantastic on how the houses are set up. Used the 8 holer and had a lot of space with for guys in it.

McQuoids huh?? There a little more expensive than the others that I've found, but quality is more important than bottom line. Thanks for your advice. Anyone have any experience with Brandt's or Appledoorns??
