washing boot liners?

Recommended Posts

so my basement flooded and all my hunting stuff got wet, inlcuding my boot liners. luckily my boots were upstairs drying after being mink-oiled) my question is, can i wash these in the washing machine with scent killer detergent? do i have to hang dry them? or do i just look at getting a new pair of liners?

I'd wash them with the scent killer material but air dry them so they don't shrink. But I would also be concerned about the mink oil on the leather, as that isn't a natural scent. I would definitely spray those babies up and down with scent killer just before you go hunting each time. The mink oil is more of a concern, I would think, than the liners.

It's my personal opinion, of course, but I think it just smells too strong. I wouldn't think that deer normally smell mink fat, and that it would strike them as something "different" and potentially "dangerous". Also, I think that a lot of mink oils are just a small percentage mink fat, and who knows what chemical the rest of it is. Basically, I just figure that any smell that isn't what the deer in the area normally smell will be considered "unnatural" to them.

But who knows. If it's worked for you, then why not keep doing it.
