Raven
Am planning on making some venison jerky again this year. Just wondering if anyone has used one of those vaccum sealers to package jerky for storage? We used one to package chickens this year and they work great. Going to use it for our venison this year too, but was wondering if it would work for the jerky?
fishnhooks
It should work just as good as it has worked for you on the other items that you vacuum sealed. I have used it for beer sticks myself and has worked great. "hooks"
BLACKJACK
One thing that I found with vacumn packing jerky is that it has lots of sharp edges and points, so after its been thrown around the freezer a few times it pokes a hole in the plastic and loses its seal. Nowadays I vacumn pack 3-4 packages of jerky and then throw them all in a big ziplock to prevent that. Otherwise vacumn packing jerky works great. sunkinboat
Black jack I have packaged alot of jerky and never had that problem? Which sealer do you have because maybe you use different style bags. I have the black and decker and I use the large roll and make my own bags and they have never bben punctured. I would maybe try a different type of bad. But I guess zip locks will do the trick.

frabillfisher
I've also noticed sharp edges, the bags are a good idea i like to use wax paper seems to work just as good
BLACKJACK
I use the Food Saver bags that come in a roll. Maybe I'm rough on them in the freezer as I'm searching thru and tossing them around? I just know its disapointing to spend a lot of time making and packaging jerky and then you come to it several months later and the seal is gone and your jerky has freezer burn.
