how and where can i get wild rice seed??

Recommended Posts

There's a place in Wisconsin that sells it. I'm sorry that I can't remember the name right now but if you do a search on the 'net, I'm sure you'll find it.

Be prepared though. It costs quite a bunch. And, if you are going to get it, you'd best hurry. Fall is the time to plant.

You don't need to buy any, just go out a harvest some the old fashioned way and spread it into the areas you want it. If you've chosen your spot well nature will take care of the rest. We managed to spread it into several ponds on my Dad's property. It will need to be a good flowing water pond to thrive and survive. Yu can harvest lots of green rice in a couple of hours.

Actually you don't need flowing water in a pond for wild rice to grow. Typically what current does is to make sure that the surface of the water doesn't clutter up with duck weed and such. As long as the water is fairly clear so the sunlight can reach the growing rice plant, you will be fine. And, you don't need to put the seeds into clay or mud balls either. Plant the seeds in the fall, the weed growth dies and covers the seeds. You just have to be sure the seeds are wet by soaking them for a couple of days in the pond in a sack then when you sow them, they will sink to the bottom. All will be well in the spring.
