hanson
Thought I'd let you all know a little glitch I ran into with Comcast High Speed Internet tonight. When I opened up my web browser, a screen popped up that wasn't my homepage and looked like an official Comcast screen. It seamed like it was some kind of upgrade and asked you to download some software.Well, the software was some kind of .exe program and the message on the screen asked you to disable all firewalls, pop-up blocking software, etc. Hmmmmm...I'm not the "techiest" guy in the world but this caught me off guard. I made an immediate call to Comcast to check on the validity of this screen or message and they said they would never do this. All the software updates occur automatically and I would never be asked to upgrade their software on my own.Apparently, I was the 3rd person to call in to contact them about this and the 1st couple people ended up with big problems by running the .exe program. Honestly, they didn't know how to handle the first few since it was a "new" question to them.I was instructed to shut the computer down & shut off my modem. That didn't work. It actually took me unhooking my USB cable from the modem before things "cleared up". This comcast screen was the only screen I could pull up on my browser.Hopefully things are well now.Just an FYI for you Comcast users. Be careful and contact Comcast before running any software or downloading any software that "comcast" instructs you to run.
cableguy031
The headend is aware of the problem and is on top of it. I ran into the same thing. I worked for Comcast not too long ago as an installer.
