I second McDonalds Meats in Clear lake. Right off Hway 10. I had a deer done there a few years ago(I do them myself now) and was satisfied. I do not remember the actual price but was not too bad compared to other places. Another thing they do is totally debone the meat. When you go pick it up it will be smaller packages but all meat that will last longer.. Good, nice people there and they make good sausage with your trimmings.. Good luck..

The actual processing and packaging up the deer isn't too expensive. You run into the money when you have sausage and other things made from the trimmings. To be as cheap as possible get your trimmings as pure ground venison.

60 lbs. of edible meat on a 140 lb. deer. We hunt up in the brainard area too, and I live in NE Minneapolis. We hang the deer in the garage and invite a bunch of people over on the weekend and get a little manufacturing line going. We cut out the roasts, steaks, and back loin. The roasts and steaks are easy. The back will take a little practice and patience. All the scrap and misc. stuff we put into plastic bags and weigh (so we know how much we're taking in). Get sausage and hamburger/pork mix. If you do this way you pay your mfg. line workers with a couple of steaks, and it minimizes the processing costs over at the butcher.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Remember to buy a generator for your freezer to protect your meat from wind storms that knock out your power for 3 days.

I went with a place in Little Falls called Theilen Meats! Cost me $75 to process & cut into steaks and roasts. I also had the trimmings put into their country and polish sausages!

I can't wait to get my meat back...those sausages are to die for.

There is also a Theilen's in Pierz (about 12 miles east of Little Falls) They process hundreds of deer during the season. I'm not sure of the cost but $65-$75 sounds about right. You can bring the deer in with or without the hide. The cost includes cut wrap and freezing as well as grinding hambuger. On warm years we have taken deer in on Monday and had the meat back by Thursday. Good Luck.
