Bemidji grouse?

My son and I are going to look at Bemidji State for a college that he may go to next year and we have a afternoon to look for some grouse. I am not looking for any honey holes but which direction would we go from Bemidji to find a few trails to walk? Thanks for all the help, first time in the area.

Try Northeast around Blackduck or south around Akely to Leader. Lots of public woods and trails.

There are tons of places to hunt in the area. The Chippewa National Forest is close. If you check out their web site they have 11 maps of hunter walking trails(of course you can hunt anywhere on the forest that is not posted).

Buena Vista State Forest is also about 15 miles from the college. I saw birds almost everytime I was out there.

Paul bunyon state forest has a bunch of acerage as well to walk. bout 20 min south of Bemidji.

My friends dad was up in the bemiji area grouse hunting on state land and trails last weekend and him and his yellow lab ended up with nine of them. He said that their was grouse everywhere.

Thanks for the reply's. We only have a few hours to walk a couple of trails and we have never hunted the area. No matter what it should be a good time. I will let everyone know where we ended up and how we did.
