This is a nice buck I got last fall. That is my son Hunter holding the deer. It was his first time going out with me. We were sitting in a stand of large pines watching a huge scrape in mid-november. This bad boy came in behind us at about 10 yards! Talk about exciting! Hunter actually doe bleated and grunted him back in to bow range after he had walked off a little ways. The best part was the phone call on the cell phone to Grandpa...brought tears to my eyes!

wkeebobbler I can't believe nobody's responded to your post yet! What an awesome experience! Especially to share it with your son and to have him take an active role in it is fantastic! I have kids too and I can just imagine how thrilled they would be to be a part of something like that. Very nice buck by the way! How long were you sitting when the big boy came along? I just don't know how long my boys would sit still. grin.gif How much did that bad boy weigh in at?

That’s a great story... I remember sitting in the bottom of my dad's stand when I was young. I would always fall a sleep until mid morning. I would always line my eye's up with the holes in my dad's stand so I could still see if something walked by. My dad never shot any when I was there, but I sure took care of the squirrel population with a BB gun.

Here's the funny part to all this. It was a Sunday morning and I had just gotten back from an educational conference in Boston. It was November 13th prime rut time in Iowa. My wife wasn't feeling too likely to let me go hunting that afternoon, BUT.....we saw a huge buck in a little woodlot on our way home from church and I looked at her and said..."It's a sign from God...he wants me to go hunting!! It worked. She "let" me go and the rest is history.

We sat at this spot for about 2 hours before he came in. My son had been crying because "all we were doing was sitting". He thought we should be moving around more. That's when I decided he should start using the calls, gave him something to do and he felt more like a hunter. I was amazed at how good he made the calls sound!! I never got a weight on the deer but I would estimate it at 170 field dressed and probably a near 130 class pope and young buck. The size doesn't matter to me...I would have taken a spike just so my son could be in on it. What a fantastic experience!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
