LMS-332c not powering up???

river-rat4

Question

I went down to the boat yesterday, just charged the battery, hooked up the sonar (with inline fuse) and nothing. I'm confused, it worked two days previous. I disconnect the unit after each use, connect/disconnect the three cables each time.

I also have another question after this one is resolved. Any help would be appreciated.

river-rat4, these in-line fuse enclosures are spring loaded. Make sure that temp change, movement or humidity didn't slightly separate the fuse contacts. I have this problem with one of my on-board battery charger banks. You could remove the fuse and use a short length of wire to check that indeed there is current flowing to the unit. Work the spring connection back and forth with the fuse in place to make sure there's contact.

If that doesn't work, try wiggling the wires near the battery to see if a contact isn't secure.

Lastly, make sure you're using enough pressure on the PWR/light button. As silly as that sounds, I've done exactly that, not enough pressure. There is a difference between different Lowrance units. Hope this helps.

Why are you disconnecting all three cables from the back of the 332c? If your unit is protected by the fuse, there should be no problem leaving the Power cable and Transducer cable attached. As the GPS antenna continues to draw a small amount of current, even with the unit off, why not just disconnect only the antenna cable? Just a thought.

Thank you Doc-

I will check the above mentioned. I remove the whole unit from my boat as it sits at the dock and theft is inevitable these days.

I have tried pushing the PWR button a little harder but afraid to push any harder. There is certainly resistance when pushed.

Any other thoughts appreciated, going to try the mentioned fuse link test and check.

river-rat4, didn't realize from your first post that the boat sat dockside. You certainly wouldn't want to leave anything of value in the open. Anyway, let us know how and if your problem gets solved. My 332c gets a good workout as I have it set up in a "portable" mode that allows me to take it on fly-in trips or use it on other people's boats ( in gps mode). No problems to date. Good luck.

genofish, a number of well-placed angling experts suggested that I should consider marketing my portable setup. I've come to the realization that I flat out have too many irons in the fire to even contemplate adding this project to my

plate. I have to take a few more close-up photos to make it easy for anyone to fabricate their own version. I'll post the photos on this HSOforum.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
