city limits on lake duck hunting????

Recommended Posts

i called the dnr today regarding a VERY large swampy lake out here by chaska that is in the city limits but not near any houses. All that is near is the railroad and some industrial buildings on the other side of the rail road about a half mile away...They said call the city but i am sure they would shut it down instantly. Isnt there a rule if it is 300 yards away from buildings and on water it is gravy or what is the law???? It is wayyy back away from anything and there is wetlands all around it and no danger of shooting anything. There is only private access unless you want to walk the railroad for 2 miles but that is private property of the railroad. I would love to launch my jon from my place and roll back in there and set up..

The City can control the discharging of firearms within its City Limits and most Municipal codes do. Some, have provisions allowing discharging of weapons in certain zones if during a DNR season or something like that. They can't actually regulate hunting at all as that's the state's baby, but they can prohibit you from shooting in the City and you will get stuck with a misdemeanor ordinance violation if you shoot against their ordinances.

I will go to the city and ask but i am sure it will got shot down in two seconds...i was just wondering if anyone has done this.

If this is your property then maybe for next year (or this) ask the police dpt. if you can. If they say no then contact your city council member for your district. Ask them to put it on the city council meeting minutes for you to get a waiver to shoot in the city limits during Sept.-December on this specific land area.

I heard of this being done in....Princeton or some place...

Get photos, maps ballistics for shotguns, location of your blind - good rule of thumb is to give every possible amount of information so there will be no question to your intentions. (even get a letter from the railroad or any other neighbors).

It may seem like a lot of work, but having your own little piece of paradise is well worth it.
