trolling motor foot control short

crappieslapper

Question

My trolling motor cuts off when ever I adjust the speed or make a change of direction, and sometimes just shuts off on its own. If I jiggle the speed control around or press down on it a bit it will start up again. Think it's just matter of opening it up and tightening or re-sodering a connection? Thanks for any tips.

Dan

Depends on what model you have. The older kotas have micro switches for steering and the power off. That power off switch could be the culprit in your case. You can open it up and use an electrical cleaner on the switch. Also your speed control has a tab that slides across a sealed board. That area can wear out or the tab. Or it could be as simple as a leaf or dirt causing the problem.
