Ears
I have a 10" Lazer auger and have trouble opening up old holes in the permanent house. I was thinking about getting the chipper blade and just keeping both. Is the rotation the same for both? I like the speed of the lazer but want to be able to open up old holes in the house. Does the chipper blade work better for re-drilling old holes??
Deitz Dittrich
Actually chipper blads in my opinion are not made for re-opening holes.. I could be wong on this... But I think the shaver blades are better for that application.
hanson
When you say old holes, how old are you talking about?I have a Strikemaster Lazer 8" and it does a nice job reopening old holes. Holes that have sat for a week in my permanent are no problem. Holes that are newer and have slush pockets are no problem either.Does your auger have the Powerpoint on it? That will center your auger in the hole when you are cutting and the auger won't 'walk' around. What I do have a problem with is enlarging holes that are freezing in on the edges when I sit in one spot for the weekend. Its hard to pull a URL crappie out of a 4" hole. Reopening these 4" diameter holes back to the full auger width is an absolute pain in the arse and VERY, VERY HARD on my Lazer blades. Deitz Dittrich
Well said hanson.. at that point its time to move the house 12" and start over.
fiskyknut
IMO...I'd take a chipper over a shaver any day for reopening refrozen holes, or better yet get an Eskimo shark, nothing better for reopening holes. fiskyknut
Ears
Im talking about holes that are from a cople days to a week old and frozen solid. I have the power point and anytime I try to re-open a hole, the auger would jump all over the place and it was a wrestling match to get it to cut. I had a jiffy years ago and the chipper would rip through new or old hole all the same.
