Need help scouting

With the high price of gas I have not been able to do the kind of scouting that I planned. I usually hunt just west of the metro and I have been hunting for 3 years now. Last year I swore that I would take my son farther west(in hopes of seeing more ducks)this year and we would do some pre season scouting for public water accesses and places to stay/camp. I live just off Hwy 12 near Maple Plain and I was thinking of going out 12 to Ortonville, Appleton area. I would like to go the third week of October when the kids have no school but I could really use some info before I can make any plans. Any info is greatly appreciated and I could post my e-mail. If your looking for a good hunt/place to go try Wing and Fin resort on lake Traverse. The cabins are plenty good for hunters and the fishing is excellent right off the docks. His cost is going up a little this year but he was sure cheap enough before. Last year we limited out easily on opener on public land in the area. The owner can help you guys out.
