15 hp motor issue

KidWalleye

Question

I have an 1981 15 hp evinrude motor. When I run it in the driveway with muffs on I'm getting water coming out above the top fin. It is above the lower unit bolts so I know it isn't there. It is where theshaft and the back part come together. There seems to be rubber pads that must be for vibration. Does anyone know if there is some kind of overflow if the motor is getting too much water forced in by the muffs. Sorry if my description doesn't make sense. I'd appreciate the help. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I know another guy who has an 87 and he says it does the same thing. I just don't want to go duck hunting and get stranded.

All outboards and inboards for that matter are intended to pump their own water. When you hook up the garden hose with 40+ psi your going to be forcing water into areas not intended. On an outboard its not a big deal. On some inboards you can fill up the oil pan with water if you run water with the engine off or to much pressure.
