Rogers' Campground & RV Park - Upper Red Lake, MN.

Recommended Posts

My sons and I had an opportunity to check out Rogers' Campground & RV Park on Upper Red Lake in Minnesota. Not including the fabulous fishing URL has to offer, Jerry and Joani operate a very impressive campground and RV park.

A protected boat landing and docking area, located with Shotley Brook running through the campground, provided easy access to your campsite after fishing and makes it a more worry-free trip.

Many family activities are available at Roger's Campground; including kayaking, which Cory and Adam enjoyed a lot.

The campsites were spacious and contain a fire ring, picnic table, electric and water.

Forget something? Joani has the lodge stocked with a variety of necessities.

And of course, Jerry keeps the bait shop well stocked, too.

Fishing in the protected harbor could yield a nice catch during certain times of the year.

Under the bridge and out you go onto URL.

Numerous permanent campers are evidence that Rogers' is a popular RV park.

And, if the lake's too rough, like when we visited, it's not unusual to land a trophy from the mouth of the river.

Jerry and Joani also arrange campground get togethers frequently, like the pot-luck Corn Feed they hosted last Saturday, as a get-to-know your camping neighbor party. Never know, your campground neighbor just might have found the secret honey-hole to drop a line in. wink.gif

To sum it up, I highly recommend Rogers' Campground if you're in the area and need a pleasant, clean, friendly camping experience.

That's where we have always kept our sleeper house, Jerry and Joanni are AWESOME!

Jerry called us last year to tell us that the road we were on was going to be shut down so that we could get the house in before the road blew shut.

He has driven out to our house to double check the propane was off.

He has pulled our vehicles out free of charge numerous times.

If we forget something he usually has it.

Two years ago someone staying in our house put the front on of their van into the wind, so snow blew under the hood, when he ran the motor to warm up, he shut it off and froze the whole block, Jerry towed him in, and than gave him a ride to Blackduck to go home.

They run a class act service out of there, highly recommend it. Plus their Pizzas are the best. I know I am going to catch dump from hanson for this...

We've been staying there the past several Memorial weekends. They run a great place and having the creek there for easy access to sites and the lake is great.

I bet the creek will be busy once the season opens for those walleyes.

With opener around the corner, I thought I'd highlight this thread about Roger's Campground to all the new FM readers; just incase they haven't heard about it. We can't wait to go back this year. And, I'm sure they'll be busy this opener.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
