Thank Your Landowners

Hey everyone, another year of goose hunting is just around the corner. I can't wait to see the honkers locking in on our spread. Just a quick reminder to remember those who make our hunts possible. Without the farmers/landowners who let us hunt on their land, we would be lost. Don't forget to tell them thank you. A quick card or personal thanks can go a long way.

An exelent piece of advice.My group always offers a cleaned goose or two, if they don't eat wild game we bring thier favorite beverage as a token of thanks.

I offered to help bring in hay for a farmer in Fergus one year, he just about craped his pants when he realized I was serious.

I went there for two weekends , drove the ballor,rake,and even hand loaded the wagon a few times.

I grew up next to a farmer who had all daughters, so I knew the farmer who's land we hunted would love the extra help.

Dave and I have found excellent results doing several things of appreciation. A simple gift certificate to the local hardware store or a supper club can go a long ways. Even through college when every dime was tight, we managed to find time and/or money to properly thank a farmer who let us hunt.

Farmers do not have to let anybody hunt, they do it because the get enjoyment from our satisfaction. It only takes one irresponsible hunter to ruin that for all. More and more farmers are looking to lease land or just saying no to all. With the proper "Thank-You" and consideration for their property it should open the door for you in the future.

I would like to point to an over looked mistake some good hunters make.

Always pick up your empty's AND your spent wads.

We are going to hunt some sod fields this year for the early season, the guy I go with is adament about picking up the spent wads.

He said we get to hunt all the fields owned by this sod farmer this year because in the past his own son didn't bother picking up the empties nor did he go out after the "big white pedal things" the farmer saw as he stripped the fields.
